A Liverpool fan invaded the pitch at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday moments after his side had gone 1-0 up against Arsenal.
The pitch invader grabbed hold of Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold who were celebrating near the corner flag.
Diaz appeared to welcome the fan by hugging him before three members of security staff dragged him away.
Prior to his exit from the field, the fan was slapped on the head multiple times by Liverpool players Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate.
The slaps appeared to be motivated by excitement, rather than aggression.
After Nunez had slapped the fan’s head eight times, Konate dished out another five before removing the man’s hat and throwing it into the crowd.
Footage of this brief – but chaotic – incident swiftly went viral on social media.
Liverpool had taken the lead courtesy of a Jakub Kiwior own goal, which came indirectly from an Alexander-Arnold free-kick.
Diaz later wrapped up a 2-0 victory for Liverpool with a goal from a counter-attack in added time.
Liverpool will be represented by ball no.3 in the draw for the FA Cup fourth round, which will take place on Monday night before Wigan’s game against Manchester United.
